Trowa had been able to handle at the most three spirits.
The first three that appeared seemed normal enough, but when the others
started to arrive, normal wasn't a word to describe them. A lot of
them appeared to have come from a battle, which only caused Trowa
to have flashbacks of the war and his time with mercenaries. Presently they were stepping closer to close the small
space surrounding the only two living beings in the room. He tried
to mentally push them away. But he could feel that they were still
there. They were everywhere, and more were entering. He clinched his
jaw tightly and tried to ignore them, but by doing this only allowed
more room for the flashbacks. "Trowa, are you okay?" He heard Mina's voice.
She sounded so calm and he risked opening his eyes. The spirits were
still there, staring at him. "Trowa?" He couldn't focus
on Mina, his eyes were locked on the faces behind her. Curious, Mina
looked around. She even picked up the flashlight and waved it about,
but couldn't find what Trowa was staring at. "What's wrong?"
She asked as she seized either side of his face in her hand. She did
her best to make him look at her. When she finally succeed, the ghosts
disappeared. Trowa blinked a few times, wondering if maybe he was
dreaming. His answer was still sitting in the opposite corner. . .still
staring at him. . .still rocking back and forth. Noting the direction
he was staring, Mina glanced to the corner. There was nothing there.
"Taiki, this door is locked. Come help me."
Mina could hear Yaten's voice on the opposite side of the door. Abandoning
Trowa, she jumped to her feet and ran to the door. "Yaten, unlock the door, hurry." "Mina? You're in there?" "Yeah, where else would I be? Hurry up and unlock
the door, I want out." "The door has to be locked from the inside."
Taiki could be heard. "What are you talking about? There's no lock on this side." Trowa couldn't take his eyes from the figure in the corner. He now realized that it was watching Mina, not him. She eyed the youthful blonde with hungry eyes. Every muscle in Trowa's body tensed as he realized that the spook was about to lunge at Mina. "Yaten, open this door now! This isn't funny!" Mina screamed as tears formed in the corner of her eyes. "Trowa, help us!" She turned to face the Latin.
He was still staring at the corner. "Trowa!" At that instant, the Gundam pilot sprang to his feet
and dashed over to Mina. At the same time, the phantom did the same
exact thing. But as Trowa threw himself in the path, she stopped and
stared into his lifeless green eyes. The dead pair of emeralds glared
at the questionable living set. He now understood the reason why they
were locked inside the room. "Open the door." Trowa said sternly while
glaring at the ghost that only he could see. "Trowa, the door is stuck. It won't open. You have
to help. . ." Her sentence was interrupted by Yaten and Taiki
spilling into the room. Yaten looked up at the last two contestants.
"Are you guys okay?" He asked and both of
the Star Lights scrambled to their feet. "I'm fine." Mina answered as she stared at
Trowa. "But I'm not sure about him." "She's mine." Trowa declared as he continued
to glare at the ghost. "They're mine too." He added as he
felt the other spirits appear behind him, probably stalking Taiki
and Yaten. As Trowa expected, the brunette woman backed up and slowly
disappeared. "Trowa, what are you talking about?" Mina
wondered. Her answer was Trowa roughly grabbing her hand. He remained
silent as he began heading toward the door. "Let's go." He told Taiki and Yaten quickly
and entered the hall. "Hey, what is this?" Mina wondered as they
entered the unfamiliar hall. Trowa seemed just as confused as she
was. "You guys made it to the attic somehow." Yaten
explained. "How do we get out of here?" Trowa wondered
and looked both ways down the hall. "That way." Yaten pointed to the left. "Hey,
what's the rush?" He called and followed the winners. "Trowa, what's wrong?" Mina asked as he lead
her toward a small staircase. Without warning, a loud pounding erupted
from the doors. She glanced back to see Taiki and Yaten running to
catch up. She then looked at the doors that they were passing. She
could see faces clearly, and she couldn't help but wonder who they
were. The closer they got to the stairs, the louder and more urgent
the banging became. "Now where?" Trowa wondered as they descended
the stairs. Rather than trying to give directions, Taiki took the
lead. With Trowa leading Mina, Yaten was the last one in the group.
Mina clutched Trowa's hand tightly as the hammering became deafening.
"What's going on?" She wondered, hoping that
Trowa would at least explain. "We're almost out of here." Yaten called, to prove his statement, the exit could be seen in the near distance. Suddenly Taiki stopped in his tracks. The three following
him skidded to a halt shortly after. Standing in front of the tallest
Star Light was a well build middle aged man. He was wearing doctor
scrubs. The only visible part of his body was his eyes. He narrowed
those visible hazel eyes. "What are you doing out of your rooms?" His
voice boomed and the asylum grew still. "These aren't your patients." Trowa answered as he walked in front of Taiki, but was still holding onto Mina's hand. The doctor looked down at Trowa, then the people standing behind him. ******** "Do you think something happened?" Quatre
wondered aloud. "Let's leave the negative thinking for later Quatre."
Sally suggested and began to tamper with the wires of the speaker.
They had lost all contact with Yaten and Taiki well over two hours
ago. "I still say me and Heero should go in after them."
Seiya interrupted. "No, if you guys get lost it's not going to help
anything." Serena cried and held tighter to the Star Light's
arm. Wanting to get away from the conversations, Lita stepped outside.
As she stepped out into the crisp morning air, she noticed Wu Fei
setting on the hood of the bus that they arrived in yesterday. "Any sign of them?" Lita asked as she approached
the pilot. "No." Wu Fei answered without taking his eyes
from the asylum. "Do you think they're okay?" The structure
seemed a lot larger from the outside. "Probably." A small silence descended the
two as they stared at the entrance of the institute. "How's your. . ." "It's fine." The arrogance that Lita saw earlier
seemed to have disappeared. Maybe he was really scared for his friend
and that was the cause. "Serena said that I attacked you. . .I'm sorry
that I. . ." "It wasn't you." Wu Fei slid off the hood.
"You were possessed by Blanche Macolm." "How did you figure that out?" "Because you're too weak to knock me to the ground."
"I'm not weak!" Lita yelled and spun to face
him. "Lita!" The brunette turned at the familiar
voice. It was Mina. She was running full speed toward her friend.
Yaten and Taiki followed close behind, Trowa was now at the rear walking
a little slower than the rest. "Mina, you're okay." Lita cried as she hugged
her friend in relief. "You're all okay. What happened in there?"
"You don't want to know." Yaten assured and
glanced back at Trowa a little suspiciously. "Was it that bad?" Wu Fei wondered and stared
at Trowa for an answer. The Latin remained stoic. "Can we talk about this later?" Mina blurted. "Like on the ride home?" ******* To make the process go faster, everyone pitched in the
efforts of loading the equipment. Half an hour later, they all piled
into the bus where the girls excitedly exchanged stories of what had
happened. Mina, of course wanted to go last, and so waited. "We didn't have any real problems." Ami finished
her story. "I quit because Duo was hurt really bad. I feel really
guilty about what happened." "You didn't mean for it to happen." Quatre
assured from his seat behind her. "You mean he didn't break up the cement with his
head?" Wu Fei snickered. "So that was his blood that we saw." Serena
turned to face Heero who was sitting in the very last seat with Trowa.
". . .hn. . ." "We didn't have any problems with ghost either."
Serena recalled. "The only thing I had a problem with was that
he put a filthy rat in my hand and made me hold it for a whole minute.
It was all squirming and. . .just gross." She shivered as she
remembered how it felt to have the rodent in her hand. "I still
say you did that purposely." "If it was Heero, I'd probably agree." Quatre
teased and glanced at his friend. "Well, me and Wu Fei had a little fling with one
of the ghosts." Lita intervened and ignored the stares of her
ex-teammate. The Sailor Scout related the entire incident until the
point that she was supposedly possessed. She didn't seem to have remembered
anything after that. It was this point in the story that everyone
turned to Wu Fei to finish it, but he refused. Next, Rei reported what happened to her and Quatre.
While her raven haired friend was talking, Mina couldn't help but
stare at Trowa's reflection in her window. The entire incident didn't
seem to have phased him in the least aside for that one moment in
the padded room. She couldn't help but wonder why the ghost seem to
coward under his emerald gaze. Why him? Couldn't they have been scared
of Yaten? If anyone could scare the living it was Yaten. The spirits
that they left behind weren't the least bit afraid of him. She closed
her eyes and listened to Rei's final words. Now it was Mina's turn. Sure each of her friends had
good stories, but hers was by far the best. She told them everything
except the part about her and Trowa making out. Something told her
that Trowa wouldn't be too happy if she blurted that out to the whole
bunch. Other than that, she told everything with precise detail. Everything
since the time they parted in the rotunda to Yaten and Taiki finding
them and their bizarre run through the building. "And when we finally got to the exit, there was
this huge guy standing in the doorway." Mina continued as she
extended her hands to elaborate the width of the man. "He was
dressed in a doctor's uniform and all you could see was his eyes.
Which were really creepy." "That's the same guy Quatre and I saw." Rei
entered as she turned to look at the blonde pilot. "He was the
one that asked us why we were out of our rooms." "He asked us the same thing. That's when Trowa
stood in front of Taiki and said that we weren't his patients."
Mina continued and glanced toward the person she was talking about.
"You talked to the ghost Trowa?" Quatre wondered
as his sapphires landed on his comrade. Trowa remained silent, his
face was downcast, and his eyes were closed. "Yeah he did." Mina continued after staring
at him a moment. "Then the doctor just kind of stared at him
a moment. Then these nurses started to appear. The doctor asked Trowa
who he was and all he said was that he was a lost soul. Then he asked
who Yaten, Taiki, and me were, and Trowa said that we were his slaves."
"Your slaves?" Even Heero seemed a little
surprised that his friend would answer as such. "And then they let us go." Mina finished and
looked back at Trowa. A short pause occurred as it seemed that everyone
was looking at Trowa. "Well, since you two were the last ones and you
completed your dare, then that means you win." Serena concluded.
"Yeah, I guess we did." Mina realized. "So what are their prizes?" Serena turned
to look at Seiya who was driving. "Well dumpling, their prizes are still in the asylum.
The only way to get them is to go back in there and get them. Do you
want me to tu. . ." "NO!" Mina shouted a little too loudly. "No,
it's fine. I don't need a prize that badly. Just to know we won was
enough." She laughed nervously and the others joined her. Later
on that day, when they stopped for something to eat, Mina pulled Rei
off to a secluded corner. "Why do you think that the ghost didn't
bother Heero and Serena? And why did they act like that towards Trowa?"
Rei studied her friend a moment before answering. "I'm not exactly sure. Maybe they considered Heero
and Trowa one of them." "Why would they do that?" "Have you looked at them?" Rei expressed and
waved toward the two pilots that were in line to place their order.
"They act like zombies all the time. And their eyes are so lifeless.
The ghost probably thought they were dead. I sometimes wonder that
myself." Mina studied the two pilots. She never thought of it
like that. She knew for a fact that Trowa was alive. Last night's
events was more than enough to prove that to her. But Heero. . .Serena
did say that they didn't have a single problem with the spirits. "But Trowa heard the ghosts and saw them too. Why
didn't Heero?" "Maybe Heero scared the ghost." Rei joked. "He is pretty intimidating." Both girls laughed. "Who knows? After all, the ghost belonged to some mentally disturbed people. So who's to say what they were thinking?" ~ * ~ Thanks for reading everyone.
